First Project Down - Oil Cloth Book Bag

I today completed the first project on my list of 14 Projects in 2014 - an oil cloth book bag as part of my sister-in-law's birthday present.

Other than my daughters PE bag, this is the first sewing project that I have ever completed.

I made a prototype last week but encountered all the usual problems with oil-cloth sticking and slipping, so after carefully researching advice on the good old internet, I ordered a teflon foot for my sewing machine. I also covered the base in freezer paper (matt side up) before starting to sew.

The stitching wasn't perfect and I sewed on end of one of the handles on the wrong way so it was a little twisted, so instead of giving it as a 'gift' as such I used it as a present bag.

Still rather proud of it though :-)

2014 - A Crafty Year

After collecting craft supplies and stash for the last couple of years, I have decided that 2014 is the year that I am actually going to tar doing something with all the lovely things I have hoarded.

Although I have papercraft, decopatch and jewellery making kit, the thing I really love is sewing.

My mom bought me a sewing machine for Christmas two years ago. I had a few lessons and started one or two things but have never really made the time to sit down and sew. This year, I intend to change that.

To try and keep me motivated, I am going to aim to complete at least 14 Projects in 2014. This is an idea that I have seen on a couple of other sites that I frequent and I love a good list to tick.

I haven't quite come up with 14 things that I want to do yet, but my initial list is:

  1. Harris Tweed Quilted Blanket as a late Christmas present for my brother.
  2. Pair of quilted cushions to match
  3. Finish the applique'd alphabet for my nephew
  4. Oil cloth book bag
  5. Quilted table mats
  6. Matching pot holder
  7. Baby scrap books for my two daughters and my nephew
  8. Wedding Album for all of the mementos and non-official pictures from our wedding (about time - we've only been married for 10 years)
  9. Knitting Needle and Crochet Hook Roll
  10. .
  11. .
  12. .
  13. .
  14. .

I'll update the list when I've thought of some more things I want to do.
